The U.S. Critical Illness and Injury Trials (USCIIT) Group is governed by permanent members of the Organizing Committee (primarily NIH staff) and by rotating members of the Steering Committee (primarily academic investigators). The membership of these two Committees reflects the diversity of investigators in the field: professional specialty, large and small institutions, academic and community hospitals, clinicians and scientists, distribution across the United States, and geographic ancestry.
The Steering Committee is responsible for coordinating the programs for the Fall, Winter, and Spring meetings of the USCIIT Group and for fostering investigator-initiated hypothesis testing (Clinical Projects). The Steering Committee members are chosen based on nominations by the Organizing Committee (NIH staff), demonstrated service to the USCIIT Group, history of academic success in critical illness and injury research (including NIH funding), and potential for future contributions to the field. By design, the Steering Committee membership turns over on a rotating basis every 3 years. The 2011-2013 membership is:
